Imagine if you will, that you saw this ad come out in flyer form around your neighborhood. What would you think?
Well in Tayside, this is what happened.
A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman’s hat advertising a Scottish police force’s new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.
Tayside Police’s new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.
The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.
In my opinion, things are getting a little out of control here. It is pretty easy to offend just about anyone without really working at it. Folks need to just get over it, and get on with life. Instead we see this happening…
‘We did not seek advice from the force’s diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards. That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused.’
You know, that is probably a less severe retraction than it could have been but come on people.
