There are Hollywood celebrities, and then there is Jon Voight. I harken back to yester year, and the effort made by many many Hollywood celebrities, particularly in WWII. You can run down a long list of folks who put careers on hold, and not only supported the war efforts but took an active role. Jimmy Stewart, Mickey Rooney, Clark Gable, and many others.
Comparing that to the celebrities of today is a joke. There is no sense of what should be the moral outrage, of being attacked on 9/11. There is no sense of the need to insure that that never happens again, and that justice be served to the perpetrators.
Then along comes Jon Voight. I think I may have made some of these comments before. Here is a man that has the old school principles that I was raised with, and he is out there espousing them (read this, and this ). As well as probably ruining any chances of his working in Hollywood in the future.
Now, he is not alone there are a lot of other celebrities (Chuck Norris, Gary Sinise, Robin Williams, etc.) that are out there visiting the troops, doing shows, etc. All with very little fanfare from the mainstream media. But Mr. Voight is being very public in his opinions.
