I came late to the “gun culture”. It wasn’t until I was responsible for more than myself, that I began to realize how vulnerable my family could be to those intent on inflicting harm. In retrospect, this was not the result of not understanding the evil that was out there. By the late ’80s I had been shot at and had provided first aid to those that had been shot prior to the professionals arriving. Until I had a family, and was responsible for their well being, I never really thought about personal defense.
As a result “I wasn’t there” but, Tam has provided a perspective for all of us of just how dramatically things have changed, and the import of yesterdays passage of National CCW reciprocity by the House.
So in early ’95, there was no doubt in most any gun-owner’s mind, based on the events of the last couple decades, that we had seen our last legal magazine that held more than ten rounds, that folding stocks were destined to become features on collector’s safe queens, rather than something that let Miata owners take their carbine to the range, that it was only a matter of time before they came after all semiautos or banned carrying guns or something.
