…that NOAA has Space Weather scientists on staff?? What did we ever do without coverage in this scientific discipline?
But seriously, there is a whole branch of science dedicated to space weather. With the evolution of our culture, and our scientific advances, and our reliance of devices that rely on magnetic currents it seems that we are at risk.
Bottom line, not only do you have to keep an eye on terrestrial weather in your area (Tornadoes, Floods, Hurricanes, etc.) but you should be keeping an eye on extra-terrestrial weather as well. This week / month sounds like it may be an interesting one.
Who thinks that we will begin to see solar activity start to show up on the local weather reports and weather.com? Too late to ask that question I see, as weather.com has the storm up on their splash page.
